Belated Eid Wishes in Blue Mukaish

A belated Eid Mubarak to all my readers! I hope those of you who celebrated were able to get quality family time and tons of delicious food. My waistline is still recovering from all the food we ate, but alhamdulilhah, we had a great time. My husband and I were fortunate to travel to Houston to spend time with my in-laws and extended family.

Our morning started off going to Eid namaaz/prayer at 9:30 followed by nonstop house-hopping where there was no shortage of food. After going to our second house, my husband and I decided to go home for an obligatory mid-day Eid nap while my in-laws continued their house-hopping. Funny how the kids were more exhausted than the parents at this point! At night, the partying continued with Eid mela's and dinner parties, but we opted to do a cousin hangout instead. Plus, since my mother-in-law was throwing a brunch for about 100+ people the following day, we wanted to do something more low-key.

I decided to wear this midnight-blue mukaish outfit I bought a couple months ago. For those that are not familiar with this type of work, mukaish is a type of age-old embroidery where thin strips of metallic wire are inserted into the fabric and then twisted to create metallic embroidery. It originates from my mom's birthplace in Bahawalpur, Pakistan as well. Although it is incredibly labor intensive, when completed it's absolutely gorgeous! My "Ellie" clutch is from Sunita Mukhi, the beautiful and talented London-based luxury handbag designer. I'm obsessed!

I always tend to wear my hair down when getting dressed up, but this time around I wanted to try something different. Since I was crunched for time, I decided to go for an easy-to-do casual, up-do. First I parted by hair in the middle and sectioned enough for my side braids. At the crown of my hair, I teased it about 4 inches high and then pinned it back with bobby pins. Then, with the hair I had separated in the front, I did side-braids to frame the teased hair, also pinning them in the back. The easiest part was doing a messy bun with the rest of my hair. I was aggravated with all the flyaways and my baby hair, but alas it turned out better than I expected. Here's a close up of the look:

The best part of the day was changing out of my clothes into my husband's t-shirt, pajama's, and relaxing by the pool after everyone left. We'll be doing it all over again next month when Thanksgiving rolls around. Here's to good food, family, amazing memories, and mid-day naps!
